After one glance at this blog, I can see it being really hard for a person not to want to add some outdoor décor to their home. This is especially true for people who realize that the look of your home from the outside is sometimes more important than the inside – it’s the first thing that people see at your home! So, keeping this in mind, this post will give you some tips on installing a new cupola to your house:

-          Putting up your cupola is going to require more than what is inside the box. You will also need: pencil, tape measure, utility knife, 2 1” by 3” boards, 4 2x4s, 3 lag screws and washers, bag of screws, waterproof caulking, saw, drill, screw gun, flat screwdriver, wrench and level. Once you have these, you are ready.

-          First you determine your roof’s pitch by nailing two boards together so they pivot. Move these so they lay flat over the roof’s peak and mark the boards at this position. This is your measurement of the roof’s pitch.

-          Using a straightedge, draw a line down the center of the two opposite sides of the cupola base. Using your template from the last step, make a line from each lower corner to this line. This is where you will use your saw to cut the base.

-          Caulk the 2x4s and put them flush against the inside walls of the cupola base. Next, screw them into the roof. After the cupola base is installed, caulk where the base and roof meet on angle sides.

-          Attach the base to the 2x4s – once completed, use the provided screws to attach the mid section in the predrilled holes. The roof is installed in the same way.

Obviously, you should use the instructions that co-me with your canopy to aid you in installation, in case your cupola requires any special needs. Note: cupola from HG Lifestyle are decorative and not for ventilation purposes.
